So as I sit here with my mom, making plans to do things for our community, I remember back to when I was in junior high and my biology class did a project on homelessness. I was glad that was the option the class voted for because it had been something I wanted to help with for a while. Now that times have gotten harder, we’re seeing more and more in our own community that people are sleeping at bus stops, wandering around with shopping carts, and a greater population of homeless people that you never used to see here.
I really liked the idea Kelli had had about doing food drives at the shows, but it’s a little difficult to pull off during their break, but I still wanted to find a way for us to come together to help people out and make a difference. Since Papa Roach has teamed up with WHY for this year, I figured what better way to help…
I’m gathering up clothes I don’t wear, or want, or random clothes. I’m washing them, bagging them up, and donating them. My mom and I are organizing something with businesses and restaurants within the community to come and pick up food that they don’t use and would normally throw away every night. Then package it up and distribute it to homeless shelters. Due to the increase in homelessness, shelters aren’t able to provide nearly as much as they used to, especially around here where there’s not much going on as far as getting the donations, awareness, etc to increase any further.
These are things I’m doing on my own, but I thought if you guys wanted to help, you can keep track of everything you do, for the rest of this year (since it’s World Hunger Year). As you go along, for example, you can take pictures of things you donate, keep track of the hours you spend volunteering, etc. Then in December you can send me your exact amount of time, pictures, whatever you have and I can put together a book commemorating everything we did as a group to give to them, as a way to kind of show them how they inspired us to do these things.
Imagine how many people are on this website. We are a pretty far and wide spread group. If each of us just did something like this within our own cities, imagine the impact it could have overall. You can’t begin to improve the condition of your state, the country, or the world by attempting to tackle it all at once. You must start small. If each of us focuses on OUR community, imagine what us Papa Roach fans could accomplish, together, over the span of a year.
Go down to local charities or homeless shelters. I know that times are hard, and even without being homeless a lot of us are flat ass broke. But, something we ALL have to spare at some point is our time. Go volunteer some of that time, and keep track of how much time you spend doing it. At the end of the year, you can send me your total time and I’ll put it in the book. Each person who wants to participate will have their own page.
If you’re interested, send me a message at SeeTheNeedPapaRoach@gmail.com. I’ll get your info and stuff together so I can make a space for everyone within the book and not be doing it all at the end of the year. Each person’s will look similar. Have your picture in the corner, name, info.. What you did, etc. Don’t really know all that yet, but just something to show the guys we support their cause, and everything we can accomplish as a group.
Again this is something me and my mom saw a need for in our community and wanted to do. Of course it related to Papa Roach in so many ways. So if someone wants to do this but doesn’t know where to start I am more then happy to tell you the steps that we’ve had to go through so far to start get the ball rolling.
So… does anyone want to do this?? :)
