Which instrument should I choose?

Sun, Apr 12, 2009 at 6:32 AM by Vicksken

I’m doubting between:
-cello
-guitar
-drums
-keyboard

I know that this is a weird list, but that's just me being me...

Anyway, why those 4?
- I’m not sure why, but I always wanted to play a ‘classical’ instrument and one of my friends has been playing for a long time, and she keeps saying how great it is to feel the vibrations going through your body while you’re playing…
- Guitars just look cool and if you start with an acoustic one, you can practise everywhere. There are also a lot of teachers around, so I don’t have to go to a music school and sit between these young kiddies…
- Why I want to go for drums, I’m not sure, but well, drummers are just the coolest people around if you ask me ;-)
- And finally, keyboard: even though I’m now a total metal-chick, I have a “Dance” background, so this instrument will allow me to mix those two parts of me.

It doesn't matter if it will take me the rest of my life getting the hang of it, so that doesn't really help to make decision...
Oh, and I'm not very talented and I know 'sqwat' about notes...

So, what do you guys think?

I would go for the guitar and keyboard!!! (I play those ^^)
keyboard is .. once you know the notes it isn't that hard at all!!!
    it's really fun!!
and the guitar.. like you said , it's cool.. and you can play it wherever you want!
    just go for it! :D

    X.

The guitar is super fun! You can learn nearly anything you want once you get the hang of it. However it does take a long time to understand everything, cause I dont even know half the stuff I shoud! hahaha

    Keyboard is cool too!

Play the saxophone like me! We could jazz together...even though the sea and France is between us.

Go for the drums, I love playing them.

i play piano and saxophone. but i've been recently learning guitar. it's easier to learn a new instrument when you've already learned notes on another.

but the easiest to learn in my opinion is piano. i've been playing that ever since i was little. and you can totally play rock music on piano, just look at the people playing papa roach songs on it on youtube. lol

I'm not going to tell you what to choose because it should be what you're more passionate about. Out of one of those four you listed has to be the one you've always be interested in learning more about. The one you know you'll stick with, and that you'll enjoy pushing yourself to do better in everyday. Not something you'll get bored with after a couple days, and then put it in your closet and forget about.. but at least you explored it.

But if you have a big interest for all four of those, why not try all four? Start out with one, work hard on that, get better, and once you've gotten really good, you can always go to another one while still playing / expanding on the first one you chose.

And just because you're not "talented" now with whatever instrument and don't know anything about notes now, it doesn't mean that if you honestly try with the one you actually really, really want to put effort into, then it will all come with hard work.

    Cello is ALOT OF FUN!
I play bass you see and cello is alot of fun to play around with.
    Can be awkward to tune
but very very fun when you can play bits and bobs (:

But like above, dont listen to anyone,
    its your personal choice,
dont let others views sway what you do (:

    Either way, enjoy it (:
learning musical instruments is a heck load of funn.

I would love to learn all four of them, but I can't:

    - I just don't have the time for it
    - I can't afford that (student equals no money)
    - I'm worried that I will never get the 'hang' of them all and I prefer being good in one than bad in all...

Well then.. I think you should go for the guitar.. 'Cause I believe cello's are a bit more expensive than a good guitar when you're learning :)

probably give every instrument a little try and then just decide which one you enjoy playing most...

I´ve been playing drums for 5 years, now playing cello for the 4th year because I loveit more than drums

honestly i think its a thing that it just depends on the person and what you like go out to a music store and play on a cello then a guitar then drums and then on a keyboard and see what has the best feel for you. I personally play guitar and one advantage to guitar is tabs witch is a really easy way to learn songs i don't know note or shit like that either but i can still play a shit load of songs and have wrote a lot myself. and example of how different an interments can be on the way you feel with it is i started out on a acoustic and couldn't stand it now i have 3 electrics and love playing everyone of them like i said though its just how you feel with them. Try stuff out before you make a decision. i hope this helps if you, if you choose guitar and need any help with the basics just send me a message i can help with that
    good luck!!!
