Forum Rules/Etiquette

Wed, Jul 29, 2009 at 1:33 PM by b0ard3rl!n3rachel

(im probably going to edit this occasionally with any new rules that have been posted. dunno how often. but il try to keep up with it :])

K, gonna lay some general forum ground rules type things.
Feel free to add anything you think would make this a better place! :D
this is just my thoughts on the matter seeing as there have been a lot of rude posts and fights going on and there is no need for it.

What ive noticed is that everyone takes what anyone says to heart. Even if its just some kid thats come to troll on the boards and be rude. Its on every forum, and one thing i learned on the IMDB forums is that if you ignore it, it will go away, and if you fight back and take it to heart, that person is just enjoying it and wont stop and your getting aggravated over nothing. YES, it is annoying to see some idiot on here talking shit or acting like they know EVERYTHING when they clearly dont. Ignore it.

If you think someone is being rude or acting inappropriately, report them to Matt. Simple as that. problem taken care of. If it persists past matt talking to them, do it again. There is no need for you to take matters into your own hands

Also, there is no need to type like you are 5 years old, or in all caps. You can leave the caps to Jacoby. It makes your post hard to read and some times understand. Its not that difficult to type properly. If you dont know how to spell a word, theres always google or your browsers spell check feature if you use safari, firefox and possibly other browsers.

Its okay to act immature, in a playful manner. call your friends names and what not. Yes, its hard to tell how someone is saying something over the internet. Its just text. you cant tell if theyre being sarcastic or playful unless maybe a :P ;) or JK is added. Most likely, it is just playful on here seeing as most of us dont hate each other.

There will almost always be someone you dont agree with on any forum. That doesnt mean that you can say that theyre wrong. Everyone has an opinion. Forums are for people to state theirs, and have discussions. There is no need to act like a little kid and think that your word is final. Yes, occasionally assholes appear here, spam, talk trash about the band, etc. Doesnt mean you should go off on them. You just report them. Action might not be taken immediately. This isnt the only ground ctrl site. And, if you ignore the person, they may just leave!

Another thing, make your post worth while. A one word post just makes the page take longer to load, makes more pages of a thread that could easily just be one page, without people needing to say "Agreed" and have that be it. Say a little something or dont say anything at all.

Stay on topic! Try to keep the thread on topic. If you MUST post, start it in a new thread unless it pertains to the thread you are already on, and when starting a new thread, check to make sure it hasnt already been done. We dont really have that problem yet, but once there are a bunch, just check back a few pages for it ya know?

Revise your post. Read over your post a few times. check to make sure it makes sense, sounds good. isnt too all over the place. Doesnt mean feel dumb about everything you write and not post like i do sometimes, just make it good.

Theres also right and wrong on certain topics. il leave that to your own judgement but dont be surprised if certain things get deleted or something. just use your judgement. something may not offend you but might others, just think a little before posting.

Just trying to help. No need for people to make a fool of them selves talking trash. This place could easily go back to a nice, peaceful message board where everyone got along, and i hope it does.

if you can, when quoting people, keep it in one post. there are obviously places when this doesnt need to be done, but other times, its not that difficult and it can help keep the threads clean.

Recap-
Dont lash out on people.
Be polite.
Report users instead of picking a fight
Type properly.
Be respectful of others opinions
Make your post worthwhile!
Stay on topic
Make sure there isn't already a thread on a topic before you start one
Revise your post
Use your judgement
Try to quote everyone you want into one post.

    THANK YOU RACHEL!

And I'm with Ashley. We kinda sorta suck at staying on topic if it's me, you, Ashley, Brandy, Busta, and/or Denise posting in the same forum. hahah We need a chatzy session again soon....

Do we have anywhere the rule that people should choose user-names that are appropriate?
I think that would be also a way to avoid first upcoming troubles...

    EDIT
and what about a rule that people do not post in capital letters only? :S
    it starts bugging me. *laughing*

yeah, typing in all caps is odd.
i did it yesterday, only because it was jacoby's birthday.
    it was cobylock day :D
but if you type like that without a purpose, it seems like you're cyber yelling x]

there actually is a way to make everything all lowercase, as well as uppercase. in css coding you can set that im pretty sure....didnt use that when i was messing with css cuuuuuz all caps MEANS ITS YELLING(rules of design, YAY!). but forreal, caps is srsly obnoxious unless youre jacoby, who basically speaks in all caps haha.
