Hair!

Right guys, I really really want grey/silver hair! But, at the moment my hair is black and I've been told it's hard to get your hair blonde from black. So has anyone got tips/advice that may help me, like, to cure dead/split ends? I don't want all my hair grey/silver, just under my fringe.
So if anyone does know anything about this please, let me know! :)
